The US Supreme Court adopted a resolution, according to which the children of life without the right to relate to parole was easier. Reports about it Reuters.
The verdict was submitted when considering the case of a man from Mississippi, who was sentenced to a life imprisonment for killing his grandfather aged 15 years. Brett Jones filed an appeal, referring to the eighth amendment to the US Constitution, which prohibits excessively cruel and unusual punishments. In particular, the man stated that the judge considering his business did not make a separate conclusion that the accused would never be able to correct.
Thus, the Resolution of the Supreme Court marks the waste from the practice of restrictions on the sentences of minors to life imprisonment. This issue was the subject of close attention of the public recently, and in 25 states from 50 there is a ban on such sentences. Human rights defenders fear that the removal of such restrictions may result in such sentences will be made against children not because of their inability to correct during the prison sentence, but on a racial and geographical basis.
Earlier it was reported that a seven-year-old boy from New York was accused of rape. The incident occurred on Thanksgiving, but other details and the name of the child were not disclosed. New York lawyer Anthony Martoon stressed that the matter is absurd, because the boy could not truly realize what he was doing.
