US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan arrived in Washington after the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia to return home for consultations, reports RIA Novosti.
As reported by correspondents, he went to the arrival hall of Dulles Airport in Washington after the arrival of his aircraft from London.
Sullivan said that in the morning before departure in Moscow there was good weather. “I am glad to return, I expect to see my family and meet with my colleagues in the administration,” he said.
Previously, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharov wished Sullivan with benefit to spend time in Washington. She reported that the Russian side is now actively consulting with its ambassador to the USA Anatoly Antonov, who is currently in Moscow.
On April 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Kremlin advised Sullian to go to the United States to consult with the new administration on relationships between Moscow and Washington. Sullivan himself first refused to leave.
On April 20, the ambassador said that he would still leave Moscow, but would return in the coming weeks. The State Department explained that Sullivan wants to spend his family and meet with members of the new administration, with whom he had no opportunity to consult since he agreed to continue the service in his post during an indefinite period.
