Lukashenka announced start of work of commission on amendments to Constitution

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the start of the work of the Constitutional Commission, which will formulate proposals for amendments to the basic law of the country. BelTA informs about it on Monday, March 15.

Lukashenko recalled that the decision to form the commission was made at the VI All-Belarusian People’s Assembly. According to him, it is significant that she begins to work on Constitution Day.

“With the basic law, we have gone the way of becoming the first sovereign state in our land,” he said.

The head of state added that the work of the Constitutional Commission should be open.

“The availability of your work for people’s initiatives is a matter of public confidence in its result,” he said.

Earlier, Lukashenka announced a referendum on the new Constitution.

He also claimed that after the adoption of the new basic law, he will step down.

In Belarus, protests have continued for seven months after the presidential elections, according to the official results of which Lukashenko received 80 percent of the vote.
