Third wave of Covid-19 hit Europe

The third wave of coronavirus hit Europe. New mutations of the virus and a sluggish vaccination campaign are blamed for the outbreak, The Guardian reports.

The daily increase in new COVID-19 cases in Europe has reached record levels since early February, leading to renewed restrictions, curfews and even de facto lockdowns in some countries.

In Germany, in fact, they recognized the onset of the third wave in connection with a jump in the incidence, and in Italy they imposed severe restrictions, fearing a repeat of the tragic events of last spring. The situation is very alarming in the metropolitan region of France: according to the country’s health minister, every 12 minutes another Parisian gets into the intensive care unit. Record daily gains were also recorded in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Earlier, the president of the Robert Koch Institute, Professor Lothar Wheeler, said that the third wave of coronavirus could hit Europe in the near future. According to him, if enough people are not vaccinated, the restrictions will have to be returned in the fall.
