The Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus sent a criminal case on the preparation of riots to the Supreme Court. Tut.by reports about it on Monday, March 15.
Five people are charged under the article “Preparing to participate in mass riots accompanied by violence against individuals, pogroms, arson, destruction of property and armed resistance to representatives of the authorities, as well as training and other training of persons to participate in such mass riots.” p>
One of the defendants in the case is also accused of obstructing the work of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.
As the newspaper notes, it is not known who we are talking about. Earlier it was reported that one person was accused of obstructing the work of the CEC – the popular blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky, the husband of the main opposition presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. However, among the articles imputed to Tikhanovsky, there is no preparation for riots.
Mass protests have continued for seven months in Belarus due to the official results of the presidential elections, according to which Alexander Lukashenko, who ran for a sixth term, won 80 percent of the vote, and Tikhanovskaya – 10 percent.
