In Germany, the preliminary results of regional elections were announced. According to them, the Green party becomes the leader in Baden-Württemberg, gaining 31 percent of the vote. This is evidenced by the data of the publication Die Welt.
Thus, the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party won 23 percent of the vote, which is 4 percent less than the previous time. In third and fourth places in the region are the “Alternative for Germany”, which gained 11.5 percent of the vote, and the Social Democratic Party, which gained 12 percent.
At the same time, the Social Democrats are in the lead in Rhineland-Palatinate with 34.5 percent of the vote, the second place in the region is held by the CDU with 26 percent of the vote. In third place was the party “Alternative for Germany”, which was supported by 10.5 percent of voters.
According to RIA Novosti, such results could be a blow to the ruling CDU, led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is losing 4 and 6 percent in regional elections, respectively. Thus, the Greens can join the new ruling coalition.
The previous elections in Germany were held in 2016. In September this year, parliamentary elections will be held in the country, as a result of which a new federal government headed by a new chancellor will be formed.
