A program for development of managerial competencies of young design engineers has started at Energomash

On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, the Training and Development Department organized a training event in the format of a business game for 17 young leaders and specialists from the design bureau of the Energomash Scientific and Production Association named after academician V.P. Glushko (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).

The participants were divided into several functional groups – “workers”, “design engineers”, “financiers” and “Board of directors”. The task of the business game is to build a railway in a complex landscape and organize the transportation of goods. It’s important to meet budget and deadlines.

“It would seem that the game model is far from rocket propulsion, but in the course of the game, the participants face the same tasks and the same problems as in real life. And this means that they can analyze their mistakes and learn from their experience during the game, – said Natalya Daniltseva, Head of the Personnel Assessment and Development Department of NPO Energomash. – The purpose of the training is to “take” the participants out of the comfort zone by placing them in a game situation, to provide the participants with feedback on their team performance and to motivate them to develop as an individual, and command.

Any problem-oriented learning also “works” for team building, as it allows you to get to know your colleagues better and learn how to interact with them while solving game problems, taking into account all the limitations. The experience gained in game interaction will provide more effective interaction between departments and sectors of the design bureau and in work situations.

During the game, the participants understand the importance of interaction between departments, the importance of “horizontal” communication and exchange of information, develop the skills of analyzing information and making decisions in conditions of its lack, see “problem areas” and realize the importance of promoting ideas and economically sound innovations within the enterprise , learn how to properly organize and conduct meetings without wasting time. “

Valery Smetanin, Deputy General Director for Personnel and Social Policy of NPO Energomash, commented on the training: “The toolkit for resource management, interaction with other departments, decision-making with a time limit and a limited set of information will be useful to design engineers in experience in teamwork, assignment of tasks and priorities will come in handy in project activities and in the management of sectors of the design office. “
