Price of gasoline in Russia has broken a historical record

The price of AI-92 gasoline rose at the auction on March 12 to 55.75 thousand rubles per ton, breaking the historical record in May 2018. This follows from the data of the St. Petersburg International Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange (SPIMEX).

During the trades, the cost of the Ai-92 jumped by 1.71 percent. Since the beginning of the year, its price has increased by 12.33 percent. The increase in the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel at Russian filling stations in the first week of March is associated with an increase in wholesale prices due to seasonal growth in demand, the Ministry of Energy told TASS.

Earlier, the government supported the ideas of oil workers to increase gasoline prices and decided to adjust the damper mechanism in the fuel market. The prices included in it will be indexed in accordance with the level of actual growth in retail value.

In January, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who oversees the fuel and energy complex, promised the Russians that the increase in the cost of gasoline in 2021 would be within inflation. Since the end of December 2020, gasoline prices in the country have been growing by 5-10 kopecks per week, but at the end of February they skyrocketed.
