Arrested Telegram channel administrator goes on hunger strike in Belarus

The Belarusian blogger, administrator of the Telegram channel “Belarus of the Brain” Igor Losik was charged with a new charge, the article was not disclosed. This was reported by Radio Liberty.

As the wife of the arrested person, Daria, said, after he was charged, her husband tried to commit suicide in front of the investigator and the lawyer and went on a dry hunger strike in protest.

Earlier, Moosie went on a hunger strike to protest the detention and ended it in January, on the 42nd day. His health deteriorated significantly.

Igor Losik was detained on June 25. A criminal case was opened against him under article 342 (“Organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them”) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. Later, new charges were brought against him under article 293 (“Preparing to participate in riots”).

The blogger’s wife claimed that he was “deliberately created inhuman conditions” under arrest: he was transferred from cell to cell, deprived of letters and the press, a cellmate with head lice was planted. “For my husband and father of our daughter, they arranged a torture, placing him in conditions that did not differ much from bestial conditions,” she said.

On March 11, it was reported that the Investigative Committee of Belarus completed the investigation of the criminal case, in which the final charge was brought against the Belarusian blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky under four articles of the Criminal Code. The most severe sanction is punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years.

In Belarus, protests have been going on for more than six months after the presidential elections on August 9, 2020, according to the official results of which Lukashenko received 80 percent of the vote. The actions of those who disagree with the results are harshly suppressed by law enforcement agencies. Tens of thousands of people were detained, many spoke of torture and beating in isolation wards. Four people died in clashes with security forces.
