US President Joe Biden signed a decree to stimulate the country’s economy amid the coronavirus pandemic. Almost two trillion dollars will be allocated for these purposes, reports Reuters.
“This historic legislative initiative is aimed at restoring the core of this country and provides the people of this country, working people, the middle class, those who built this country, a good opportunity,” the head of state explained.
According to the approved package of measures to rescue the economy, $ 400 billion will be directed directly to the fight against the pandemic. About half of all funds will be allocated to provide assistance to the population, the rest – to stimulate the economy.
Under the program, many Americans will receive a one-time payment of $ 1.4 thousand. The deadline for the $ 300 Weekly Unemployment Benefit Supplement will also be extended until September 6.
On March 6, the US Senate approved a package of measures to stimulate the American economy. The bill was passed by a margin of one vote. Despite the approval, some of the points that caused the most controversy among the senators were removed from the draft. Thus, the provision was excluded to increase the minimum wage from 7.25 to 15 dollars per hour by 2025.
