The head of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina speculated about the issue in Russia of banknotes in denominations of 10 thousand rubles and coins in denominations of 50 rubles. She voiced her opinion in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
Nabiullina noted that at the moment there are no plans to introduce additional types of cash in the country. “The 50-ruble coin may have advantages, albeit not obvious, but we see that citizens do not really like to pay in coins,” added the head of the Central Bank.
At the same time, she explained, the introduction of new coins or banknotes is fraught with additional costs for credit institutions for setting up equipment. As such, the costs outweigh the potential benefits of the new cash.
Earlier, Goznak said that the appearance of new banknotes is associated with a number of issues, such as changes in the organization of the cash circulation system, issues of banknote security, since the higher the denomination, the higher the interest in counterfeiting.
