Sales of passenger cars in the EU fell in February this year by 19.3 percent in annual terms (up to 771.5 thousand cars), which was a record low since 2013. This data is provided by the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA).
Italy showed the smallest decline (minus 12.3 percent). In other markets, performance was worse: Germany (minus 19 percent), France (minus 20.9 percent) and Spain (minus 38.4 percent). From January to February, auto sales in the EU were down 21.7 percent from the same period last year.
Spain was hit hardest, where sales almost halved (minus 44.6 percent), followed by Germany (minus 25.1 percent) and France (minus 14.2 percent). Sales of new Lada cars in the European Union in February fell 2.2 times in annual terms (up to 96 cars). Quarantine restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic continue to put pressure on demand.
Earlier it was reported that some of the most popular cars have risen in price in Russia. Prices for standard Lada cars in March increased by two percent on average. Avtovaz has raised prices for the second time this year.
