Austrian Chancellor finds Europe uncompetitive due to COVID-19 vaccination

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz revealed the problems with vaccination of the population against coronavirus. He stated this on the air of a talk show on the Krone.tv channel, the release is available on YouTube.

So, he pointed to the fact that the United Kingdom and the United States receive vaccines and vaccinate the population against COVID-19 faster than the member states of the European Union (EU). “Vaccination is already a geopolitical conflict. We, as the EU, are not as competitive here with other parts of the world as we actually should be,” the head of government stressed.

According to him, due to the fact that residents of some countries in Europe do not receive drugs, and in others vaccination of citizens is nearing completion, quarrels and tensions will arise in the EU, which will cause massive damage to the unification of European states. Kurz added that it is necessary in the near future to at least ensure that the vaccination campaign in the European Union is carried out equally quickly.

Earlier, the Austrian Chancellor called on the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to admit the Russian Sputnik V vaccine as soon as possible. The more vaccines, the better, he said. Kurz added that he considers it quite realistic to get Sputnik V for use in the country.

In February, the Austrian authorities thought about the production of the Russian vaccine at their own production facilities. Prior to this, Kurz announced that he would be ready to be vaccinated with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and the Chinese drug, if they are approved in the EU countries.
