The authorities of 21 American states wanted to sue US President Joe Biden. They filed a lawsuit demanding to overturn the decision to stop the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the United States, according to the website of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The claim was filed with the federal district court for the Southern District of Texas. The American leader exceeded his authority when he signed a decree canceling the construction of the pipeline, the plaintiffs say. They ask to declare the decree unconstitutional and to withdraw it.
Due to the cancellation of the project, at least 12 thousand people will not be able to get jobs, and the authorities of some states will lose potential profits, the lawsuit says. “Biden has set himself the task of undoing all the successes of the previous administration, completely ignoring the constitutional restrictions on his power,” – said the Attorney General of Texas.
The pipeline was supposed to supply 800 thousand barrels of oil per day from Canada to refineries in Texas and Louisiana.
Previously, authorities in 12 states filed lawsuits against Biden because of his decree on the protection of public health and the environment. State representatives believe that the decisions of the head of state will lead to large monetary burdens for the population.
