Audi will stop making new engines

Audi will stop making new gasoline and diesel engines, and in 10-15 years it intends to completely switch to electric vehicles, reports Automobilewoche.

Such measures are necessary to comply with new environmental regulations in Europe. The last classic Audi engine will be the six-liter W12 petrol unit. It will be equipped with the top version of the flagship A8 sedan.

Earlier in March, another automaker, Volkswagen, announced that it is set to become the global leader in electric vehicles by 2025. The company plans to invest heavily in the production of batteries and to constantly increase the share of electric vehicles in sales. Volkswagen is preparing to fully switch to modular production of electric vehicles based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB) platform, which will be deployed in Europe, China and the United States.

Only electric cars by 2030 will be produced by Volvo. The automaker’s CTO Henrik Green said gasoline cars have no future in the long run. Volvo launched the XC40 Recharge electric vehicle in 2020. By 2025, it is projected that 50 percent of the company’s global sales will come from electric vehicles, with the remainder from hybrids.
