Volkswagen has decided to become the world leader in the production of electric vehicles by 2025 and thus will become another Tesla competitor. Information about the company’s plans appeared on its website.
Among other things, the company plans to make capital investments in the production of batteries and constantly increase the share of electric vehicles among sales. Volkswagen is preparing to fully switch to modular production of electric vehicles based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB) platform, which will be deployed in Europe, China and the United States.
In mid-February, Jaguar Land Rover announced its intention to compete with Tesla. The British automaker is preparing to fully switch to electric motors by 2039, ending harmful emissions. In addition, 60 percent of Land Rover vehicles sold will be equipped with electric powertrains by 2030.
Mercedes-Benz also announced its intention to bet on the production of electric vehicles and become a competitor to Tesla. Ola Kallenius, CEO of Daimler (the group that includes Mercedes), announced that by the end of the decade, green cars will bring the company as much revenue as cars with internal combustion engines (ICE). Porsche has similar plans: by 2025, electric vehicles will account for up to 50 percent of the company’s sales, and by 2030 – up to 80 percent.
