Only female cosmonaut of Roscosmos became prototype for Barbie doll

The Barbie brand has released a doll in the image of the only woman in the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps, Anna Kikina. Information from the press conference of the American manufacturer of children’s toys Mattel is reported by TASS.

As representatives of the company noted, the doll will be presented in two versions of the outfit: a flight suit and a spacesuit for spacewalk. However, the toy will not go on sale.

According to Kikina herself, who became the prototype for the new Barbie, the doll will help girls understand that they always have a chance to become an astronaut if they prepare properly to fulfill their dreams.

“It is not necessary that every girl playing with such a Barbie wants to become an astronaut. The most important thing is that they all know that they have a choice, they have the right to choose any profession they like,” she stressed. / p>

36-year-old Anna Kikina has become the only female cosmonaut of Roscosmos since 2016. It is still unknown when her first flight will take place.

In July 2016, top model Natalia Vodianova was chosen as the prototype of the first Barbie doll from Russia.

The Barbie doll was first released in 1959 in the USA, in Wisconsin. It was invented by Ruth and Elliot Handlers, the co-founders of Mattel. Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.
