Investigation into student protests case completed in Belarus

The Investigative Committee of Belarus has completed the investigation of the criminal case on student protests, Tut.by reports.

The accused are 12 people: students, a teacher and a member of the Opposition Coordination Council. The UK claims that the organization of the protest actions was discussed with the former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.

The investigation claims that the protests disrupted the educational process, as students blocked the corridors in universities, shouted, whistled and chanted slogans.

The defendants in the case were charged under the article “Organization of actions that grossly violate public order, committed by a group of persons.” They are arrested. The criminal case has been transferred to the prosecutor for referral to the court.

Mass protests have been taking place in Belarus for seven months, demanding the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko and the holding of new elections.
