US on several unsuccessful attempts to contact North Korea

US State Department spokeswoman Jalina Porter spoke about several unsuccessful attempts by the US authorities to contact North Korea. RIA Novosti reports her words.

Porter noted that the United States tried to contact the DPRK through several channels, including through New York, where the permanent mission of North Korea is located at the UN headquarters. According to her, this was done to “avoid escalation.” However, until now, no response has been received from the North Korean side, she concluded.

In early January, Kim Jong-un called the United States the main enemy of the DPRK. He expressed the opinion that the policy of the United States towards the country will not change regardless of who will occupy posts in the American administration.

In 2018, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and then US President Donald Trump met in Singapore. There, the two leaders signed an agreement under which Pyongyang will abandon its nuclear weapons.

The second summit in early 2019 in Vietnam was interrupted. The US President and the DPRK leader met again in June of that year in the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea and agreed to resume negotiations. However, in October they reached a dead end.
