Roscosmos continues monitoring

Earth remote sensing satellites continue to monitor emergency situations. From March 18 to March 25, 2021, data in the amount of more than 711 thousand square kilometers were transferred to the Ministry of the Russian Federation for civil defense, emergency situations and eliminating the effects of natural disasters.

So, during this period, the following emergencies were monitored at the requests of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia:

  • Ice crossings in several regions of the Russian Federation;
  • Karst dips in the Chelyabinsk region, Perm Territory and the Nizhny Novgorod region;
  • Threat of flooding in the Krasnoyarsk Territory;
  • The situation in the republics of Buryatia and Tyva, as well as in the Irkutsk and Magadan regions;
  • the threat of flooding in Primorsky Krai;
  • flooding in Oryol and Lipetsk regions;
  • consequences Lavina’s gathering in the Republic of Dagestan.

As part of the activities of the International Charter on Space and large catastrophes, the monitoring of emergency situations was not carried out at the specified period. On the basis of media reports on natural and man-made catastrophes around the world, the space survey of the following events was planned:

  • Monitoring of volcano eruption in Iceland;
  • Monitoring of the coastline pollution in Israel;
  • Flood monitoring in Australia.

Roscosmos State Corporation supports prompt interaction with the EMERCOM of Russia for timely response to the occurrence of a flood and fire-hazardous situation and the implementation of space monitoring of the affected territories.
