In Russia, food prices in February 2021 rose five times faster than in Europe. Thus, in Russia, the cost of goods by 1.5 percent was noted compared with January, while in the EU countries this figure was 0.3 percent. Interfax reports this with reference to the data of the Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat).
In general, in the first two months of the year, food in Russia has become more expensive by 2.7 percent, and in Europe – by 1.1 percent. The greatest increase in February was observed in the value of vegetables, it was 7.6 percent, while the fruits rose in price by 2.2 percent, and meat – by 1.1 percent.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian government decided to prolong the freezing of prices for essential products. It is expected that the utmost retail cost of sugar and sunflower oil will be extended for another two months – until the end of May. The current period of the restrictive measures is designed until April 1.
For the first time, the limiting prices for sugar and sunflower oil were installed in December – after Russia has recorded a sharp rise in prices for them. Attention was paid to the situation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and the profile departments were instructed to take action.
