Japan’s authorities complained about the use of the official representative of the United States “wrong” name for the designation of the Japanese Sea. On Thursday, March 25, Deputy Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Manaba Sakai reported, RIA Novosti reports.
As Sakai explained, this is a mistake that a representative of the Indo-Pacific Command of the United States Mike Kafka made in his statement: commenting on North Korea rocket launches in the region, he stated that they had a place in the Eastern Sea. At the same time, in Japan, it is believed that the only name in the international community name for this sea is Japanese.
“We made a presentation to the US government and ask to correct [mistake],” the politician noted. He also stressed that such American side errors in Japan are regarded as unacceptable.
In South Korea and the DPRK, the Japanese Sea is customary called Eastern or East Korean. At the same time, Seoul has been seeking this name at the international level for several years.
