Both New York State School Chambers voted for the bill, legalizing the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. This is reported by the AXIOS edition.
The bill will detect a criminal record from thousands of residents of the state convicted on charges associated with the use of cannabis. It is noted that in 2020, 94 percent of the arrests associated with this drug accounted for the population. In addition, the authorities expect that the new industry will create 30-60 thousand new jobs and will replenish the treasury for an additional $ 350 million annually.
Andrew Comeo’s governor has already promised to sign the bill. It is noted that after that, New York will become the 15th state of the United States, where the use of marijuana will be resolved during recreational purposes.
In July 2019, the use of marijuana was decommissioned in New York, after which the storage of a small amount of cannabis ceased to be considered a criminal offense. Last November, it was reported that marijuana’s legalization is more than two thirds of the US inhabitants. At the end of February, the legislators of the US state of Virginia approved the bill, which allows the use of marijuana in entertainment purposes since 2024.
