Researchers of the Massachusetts Hospital of the General Profile and Medical Center Beth Israel Diakonisess in the United States found that some hospitalized patients with COVID-19 arise non-profit seizures, which can increase the risk of death. About scientific work, published in Annals of Neurology, reported in a press release on MedicalXpress.
Specialists analyzed medical data on 197 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, which were EEG monitoring. The electroencephalogram revealed non-profit seizures of 9.6 percent of patients, some of which had not previously had neurological problems. At the same time, hospitalization of such patients was longer, and the probability of death rose four times. This suggests that neurological complications can be an important factor in the incidence and mortality associated with COVID-19.
According to scientists, the results show that patients with COVID-19 should be carefully monitored for non-profit seizures as a new dangerous complication during coronavirus. However, it is not yet clear how intensive therapy is needed for such patients.
