Largest manufacturer of gloves declared boycott

US accused the largest manufacturer of gloves in the world – the Malaysian company Top Glove – to the use of forced labor workers and declared a boycott. According to France 24, the American authorities have already begun to withdraw its products.

US Customs and Border Control Service (USCBP) announced that “will not suffer from the exploitation of vulnerable work by foreign companies for the sale of cheap, unethical products to American consumers.” At the same time, the service is confident that the prohibition of Top Glove gloves will not strongly affect American imports.

The American authorities are confident that the workers in factories work overtime and in difficult working conditions. Many employees of the company are low-paid migrants from South Asia, usually place them in hostels, where dozens of people can live in the same room, indicates the publication. Representatives of Top Glove have not yet commented on the situation, but the company’s shares on the news about American boycott collapsed five percent.

And Top Glove does not enter such a position. For example, in 2018, the media appeared in the media that workers migrants are forced to work overtime, they do not pay a salary, and passports confiscate. Then the company was able to disprove the accusations, and the export resumed.

The Malaysian company accounts for about a quarter of global glove production. She has 47 factories and 21 thousand employees, Top Glove products are bought in 195 countries of the world. She was able to benefit from the coronavirus pandemic: for the year her quarterly arrived jumped 2030 percent.

last fall, the company was forced to close 20 of its production sites after more than 2.5 thousand employees revealed coronavirus. Most of the disease found in foreign workers who live in hostels.
