In Jordan, the connection of conspirators was surrounded by the accused of an attempt to coup former Crown Prince Hamza Ben Hussein with “foreign forces”. Together they allegedly wanted to overthrow the king Abdalla II, the Saraya Agency reports.
Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, Ayman Safadi at a press conference stated that Jordan’s special services have long followed the actions and movements of the group of conspirators, as a result of which data on contacts abroad were obtained during which the time was discussed to start a coup.
Safadi noted that, according to the preliminary investigation, people from the trial of the prince were contacted with representatives of the “so-called foreign opposition” to organize information stages and provocations for destabilizing national security.
According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, detained conspirators at the moment when they were going to move from planning to specific actions.
The former Crown Prince Jordan Hamza Ben Hussein had previously recorded a video message in which he stated that he was placed under house arrest against the background of criticism of government actions. According to the prince, he was visited by the head of the General Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, who reported that he was not allowed to go outside, communicate with people or meet them.
In addition to him in Amman, a former Counselor of the king, the ex-minister of finance Bassam Avandalla and several high-ranking officers were arrested. Officially, the authorities declare that he was revealed “Conspiracy to remove Abdalla II”.
