In Belarus, 109 militiamen declared civil lawsuits about compensation for moral damage received by them during the overclocking of protest in the city of Pinsk on the night after the presidential election in August 2020. This is reported by Tut.By.
Siloviki acts victims in a criminal case of mass riots. The total amount of claims for compensation for moral damage was 382.5 thousand Belarusian rubles (11 million Russian rubles).
Militiamen stated that “experienced fear, humiliation, pain and shame”, as well as “lost sleep, calm and appetite.”
In response, the residents of Pinsk created a petition in which the ATC of the Brest Regional Executive Committee is asked to conduct an extraordinary certification of all affected employees.
The defendants of the criminal case are 14 people. According to the prosecution, on August 9, 2020, they participated in the unauthorized mass event in Pinsk, staged a pogrom and beat police officers.
According to official data, in the elections on August 9, the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, scored 80 percent of the votes. It caused mass protests that have been continuing for several months.
