Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to check prices for foods in the Far East and take measures to reduce the gap with the average Russian level. This is reported by TASS. The president also called on to deal with the availability of air transportation from the region and determine the additional measures of the state support of airlines.
At the end of 2020, in the Far Eastern Federal District, some products have risen sharply. For example, in Primorye, sunflower oil has risen in price by 40 percent compared with the beginning of the year, sugar – by 53, and vegetables and fruits – by 11 percent. In March 2021, Putin drew attention to the problem and instructed to take measures so that the rise in food prices in the Far East did not exceed the average Russian rates.
As reported by the newspaper Kommersant, the authorities of the regions asked federal officials to allocate from the budget so that the business could compensate for the cost of delivery of food by air. At the same time, the regions themselves compensate for part of the costs to suppliers and sellers may not be due to lack of funds in budgets.
Interviewed TASS market participants, in turn, said that the situation complicates the geographical features of the region and the lack of infrastructure. In addition, the rise in prices for some products is also associated with the rise in price of feed, packaging and veterinary drugs, most of which are purchased abroad.
