The authorities of the US state of Florida declared a state of emergency due to the leakage of radioactive water. The tank of wastewater near the Bay of Tampa was on the verge of collapse, reports the New York Times newspaper.
The reservoir contains more than 1.5 billion liters of water containing waste from the former phosphorite mine, including radioactive phosphogyps. Due to the threat of flooding of nearby settlements, hundreds of people were evacuated. The spill of toxic water can turn into a catastrophe and cause serious harm to the environment and health of people, notes the edition.
It is reported that the US authorities tried to stop leakage, strengthening the walls of the tank, but failed. To reduce the load on the walls of the tank, the water decided to dig into the Bay of Tampa.
At the end of March, it was reported that in the territory of the Fukushima-1 emergency NPP, a gel mass, radiation radiation, was found in the place of storage of radioactive waste. In the company-operator, the power plant assume that earlier waste was taken in this place due to corrosion of one of the containers standing there from January to March.
