The road to the space industry for Andrei Borisenko began in the Leningrad Military Institute. After graduating from studying, the future cosmonaut engaged in scientific activities in the military unit, and then moved to work in the NGO “Energia” (now – the Roskoto-Space Corporation “Energy” named after S.P. Queen, is part of the state corporation “Roskosmos”), where he was engaged in Operating a system for moving the movement of the orbital station “Peace”, participated in the station management as a specialist of a group of analysis of onboard systems of the main operational management team.
The next stage of the path was the work as a changeable head of flights in the center of flight control in Moscow: first on the orbital complex “Peace”, and then according to the program of the International Space Station. The set in the cosmonauts squad Andrei Ivanovich passed in 2003. In 2005, at the end of the course of general-graduate training, he was qualified by the “cosmonaut-test”. Since 2008, the cosmonaut has been trained in the crew of the ISS.
Andrei Borisenko’s first space flight was performed from April 5 to September 16, 2011 as a flight engineer of the piloted ship “Union TMA-21”, the MSC-27 flight engineer and the ISS-28 commander. The duration of the flight was 164 days. 05 hour. 50 min. During the expedition, work was carried out with the Russian TRADE Costrole “Progress”, American ships “Discovery” and “Endeavor”, whose flights were the last as part of the Shattl program. During work in orbit, participated in the extensive program of scientific research, including 44 experiments.
In the second space flight, Andrei Borisenko went on October 19, 2016 as a flight engineer “Soyuz MS-02” and the ISS-49/50 flight engineer with a cosmonaut of Roscosmos Sergey Ryzhikov and Nasa Astronaut Shane Cymbro. During work on the ISS, there were dozens of experiments from different fields of science on the Russian scientific program (medicine, cosmic biology, biotechnology, physicochemical processes, etc.). Held work with Russian and foreign cargo ships, maintenance of on-board systems of the international space station, onboard photos, video. On April 10, 2017, the crew of the TPK “Union 02-MS” safely returned to Earth. The duration of the crew on the ISS was 173 days.
