In the first quarter of this year, used cars in Russia went up by 5.2 percent, overtaking new cars according to this indicator. The latter became more expensive by 3.8 percent. According to the newspaper Kommersant, the situation contributes to the shortage of new cars and their constant rise.
Among the most popular models in the secondary market, the cost of Skoda Octavia, Toyota Camry, BMW 5 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class grew faster than the total. Slowly grew prices for domestic VAZ-2107 and Lada Kalina. Analysts “AUTO.RU” reminded that the acceleration of prices in the secondary market began last year. If from the beginning of the 2020, the used cars rose by 25 percent, the prices on the primary market rose by 15 percent.
According to the head of Avilon, Andrei Pavlovich, now the demand for cars with mileage remains consistently high. The most attractive car is not older than three years with a slight mileage and one owner. As Pavlovich said, such cars buy immediately after the market appeared.
On the other hand, the secondary market is not replenished with fresh models due to the shortage of new machines: the owners are in no hurry to part with the machines against the background of income fall. “In the absence of choice, sellers establish the price tags beneficial to them, and the cost of three-year-old cars becomes higher than their original price,” explained the CEO of Fresh Auto Denis Migal.
Earlier in April, car dealers warned Russians about the next increase in prices for cars. Among the reasons are the lack of machines from sellers and the expected increase in the recycling rate.
