Owl – a predatory bird belonging to the detachment detachment. Due to its anatomy of owls, these are the only birds that can turn the head to 180 and even 270 degrees without turning the entire body. At the same time, the eyes of the owl are still and watching just forward. To change the direction of view, the bird turns the head at once in several axes.
Such an opportunity to couple with binocular vision allows owl to notice even the slightest details of the surrounding situation, which allows it to be a very efficient predator. In space, on board the International Space Station, “settled” its own owl – the orientation system of video presentation equipment. On the ISS, like her natural mixer, she also hunts, only here her prey is not hares or minor rodents, here is its goal – natural and technogenic catastrophic phenomena.
All this is the experiment “Hurricane” associated with the shooting of the earth’s surface in various spectra, as well as the control of the associated phenomena. For example, with the help of Owl equipment, a large number of images and spectra were obtained in the immediate vicinity of the spelling volcano, the emission of whose ash was not allowed to work near him aviation technology.
In automatic mode, the orientation system of filming equipment using the data of the navigation system allows astronauts and scientists to track all their phenomena and various parts on the surface of the planet.
