CE Secretary General told about popularity of Gagarin in Europe

The name of Yuri Gagarin is known to all generations of schoolchildren in Europe and around the world. This was stated by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE) Maria Paychinovich-Buric, RIA Novosti reports.

On Thursday, April 15, a round table was held in connection with the 60th anniversary of the first flight of Gagarin to Cosmos. The event held the postprared of Russia at CE Ivan Soltanovsky.

According to Paichinovich-Buric, the first person in space causes the thrill and admiration for people from all segments of society. “Politics could serve as a motivation for the so-called cosmic race. But most of the usual citizens considered it in a much broader perspective,” she stressed.

April 12 in the world celebrated the International Flight Day in Space. In Russia, a memorable date is called Cosmonautics Day. In 1961, the Vehicle “East-1” was launched into orbit. On him was the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. He became the first person who was flying into space. The duration of the flight was 1 hour and 48 minutes. Landing occurred in the village of Usmorier.
