Russia: found an alternative to gas and coal

Russian authorities found a potential alternative to traditional gas and corner. As Vice Prime Minister Alexander Novak said, we are talking about the use of hydrogen. According to him, it is important for the execution of the Paris Climate Agreement. His words leads RBC.

At the moment, the production of hydrogen from the fossil raw materials is most cost-advantageous. Reduce carbon emissions in manufacturing industries can be due to hydrogen obtained using low carbon technologies. As Novak clarified, for this it is possible to apply the technologies of capturing and storage of carbon dioxide, as well as electrolysis of water, “primarily using the energy of the objects of atomic, hydro, wind and solar energy.”

Earlier on Thursday, April 15, it became known about the plans of Russia by 2050 to earn money on the export of hydrogen from 23.6 to 100.2 billion dollars a year. The project concept of hydrogen energy development until 2024 states that the country wants to supply the world market from 7.9 to 33.4 million tons of environmentally friendly hydrogen species. However, there are no hydrogen energy market.

About 200 countries in 2015 signed the Paris Climate Agreement to fight global warming. Russia ratified the document in 2019. By agreement, Germany plans to reduce CO2 emissions by 80-95 percent from the level of 1990, the United Kingdom – 80 percent, Japan, France and Canada – by 73-78 percent, Russia – by 36 percent. Search for an alternative to traditional energy sources has become particularly relevant in the last decade against the background of climate change. The substitute for oil and gas is considered hydrogen. In pure form on Earth, it practically does not occur, but it can be removed from a large number of common resources.
