Increased indexation of payments to non-working retirees and children’s benefits to families will help reduce poverty in Russia. Such measures called the Chairman of the Committee of the Council of Social Policy Valery Ryazansky in conversation with RT.
he noted that last year the Russians received more than 200 billion rubles of payments against the background of the coronavirus pandemic. “Such a tool as a social contract, which begins to work almost systemically in many regions of our country, is also a help,” concluded Ryazan.
In April, the head of the Accounts Chamber Alexei Kudrin said that one of the most effective measures taken in terms of the population support against the coronavirus pandemic was payments for children.
Earlier, Rosstat announced a decrease in poverty in Russia in 2020. At the end of last year, the level fell to 12.1 percent (17.8 million people) – this is the minimum since 2014. In the department they explained that fan payments were explained by the main factor in the support of citizens.
According to Rosstat estimates, in the fourth quarter of last year, income below is 13.5 million people, or 9.2 percent of the country’s population. In the future, the poverty level of Russians will be assessed in a new way. The government considers the possibility of introducing a new criterion to determine it.
