Hero of Russia, the cosmonaut of the Russian Federation Elena Serov became the first Russian woman who worked aboard the International Space Station, and the fourth in the history of domestic cosmonautics by a fair sex by a space business trip.
Elena Serov went to his space flight on September 26, 2014 as a flight engineer of the transport piloted ship “Union TMA-14M” and the ISS, along with the astronaut Roscosmos Alexander Samokutyayev and Astronaut NASA Barry Wilmore.
In accordance with the flight program, Russian astronauts carried out work with the “Progress M-M” transport cargo ships, met the piloted ship “Union TMA-15M”. During the period of activity on board the ISS, the expedition participants spent about 50 scientific and applied research and experiments, carried out onboard photos, video, and prepared their ship “Union TMA-14M” to return from orbit.
On March 12, 2015, the descent apparatus of the transport piloted ship “Union TMA-14M” with the crew members of the 41 / 42th long expedition to the ISS made a regular landing in a given area in 147 km southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan (Kazakhstan). The duration of the flight was 167 days.
February 15, 2016 for courage and heroism, shown in the exercise of a long-term space flight at the International Space Station Elena Serov was awarded the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation” and the honorary title “Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation”. In September 2016, Elena Serov was elected by a deputy of the State Duma VII convocation.
