In Russia, they will produce a coin with Soviet dissident

Central Bank of Russia will release a silver commemorative coin with a denomination of two rubles in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Soviet scientist, the dissident and laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize Andrei Sakharov. This is stated in a press release on the regulator website.

The coin will be released in the series “Outstanding Persons of Russia”. The mass of precious metal clean will be 15.55 grams, alloy sample – 925, coin diameter – 33 millimeters.

On the front side, the coat of arms of Russia, the nominal coin, sample and the trademark of the St. Petersburg Mint. The embossed image of Sakharov over the years of life (1921-1989) and the atom scheme will be on the back of the coin. Her circulation will be 5 thousand copies.

Andrei Sakharov is one of the creators of the Soviet hydrogen bomb. At the same time, since the late 1950s, he advocated the termination of the tests of nuclear weapons.

Since the late 1960s, the scientist has become one of the leaders of the human rights movement in the Soviet Union. In this regard, the Soviet media organized his injury including the so-called writing teams published, in which those allegedly expressed indignation of Sakharov and accused him of nonpatarity.

In early 1980, together with his wife, Sakharov was exiled in Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod), closed at the time to visit foreigners. He was deprived of all state awards, and injury in the press intensified. The academician conducted three long hunger strikes, during which he was forcibly hospitalized and fed.

In 1986, after the start of perestroika, Sakharov was released from the reference, and in 1989 he was elected by the USSR People’s Deputy from the Academy of Sciences, and he participated in the congress of People’s Deputies of the USSR.

In November last year, the Central Bank released a series of coins with a crocodile Geno and Cheburashka. They are cast from silver and non-precious metal.
