American ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan will return to his homeland in the United States for consultations, reported AXIOS edition with reference to the US State Department representative.
According to the publication, Sullivan will return to the United States to capture his family and meet with members of the new administration, with whom he had no opportunity to consult since he agreed to continue the service in his post during an indefinite period. “He will return to Moscow in the coming weeks,” the source assured.
Earlier it was reported that Sullivan refused to leave Russia, despite the recommendation to go to Washington on consultation. According to the Axios edition, it adheres to the position, according to which the Russian side must “force it to leave,” if he wants him to leave Moscow.
On April 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Kremlin advised US Ambassador in Moscow John Sullivan to go home to consult on the current relations of the two countries. According to the minister, an assistant president Yuri Ushakov was given such a recommendation.
On April 15, Sullivan was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with new anti-Russian restrictions. The ministry was announced by the series of Moscow response. The ambassador himself stated that his visit to the agency was held at the request of the American side. He described a meeting as “professional and respectful.”
