US Ambassador in Moscow John Sullivan refused to leave Russia, despite the recommendation to go to Washington to consult. It is reported by AXIOS with reference to sources.
According to the publication, Sullivan adheres to the position, according to which the Russian side must “force him to leave,” if he wants him to leave Moscow.
On April 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Kremlin advised US Ambassador in Moscow John Sullivan to go home to consult on the current relations of the two countries. According to the minister, an assistant president Yuri Ushakov was given such a recommendation.
On April 15, Sullivan was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with new anti-Russian restrictions. The ministry was announced by the series of Moscow response. The ambassador himself stated that his visit to the agency was held at the request of the American side. He described a meeting as “professional and respectful.”
US President Joe Biden signed a decree on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. Restrictions touched individuals and legal entities. Among the grounds for their introduction, allegedly hostile activity of Russia in the cybersfer, interference in the elections in the United States or other foreign countries.
