The situation associated with the aging structures of the International Space Station acquires a catastrophic nature, and Russia cannot attend the risk of astronauts. This was warned by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Yuri Borisov on the air TV channel “Russia-1”, his words transfers TASS.
“The situation that today is associated with the aging of the design, iron, can lead to irreversible consequences – before the catastrophe. It cannot be allowed,” predicted Borisov. Deputy Prime Minister also announced the need to build a new Russian space station.
According to Borisov, it can be highly rolled and located above the ISS. At the same time, Russia has the opportunity to independently build such a large-scale object, but if desired, partners will be invited, noted politician. Borisov added that the future station could be an interim point for flights to other planets.
In September 2020, a leakage of air was recorded on the “Star” module of the Russian segment of the Russian segment, due to which the pressure fell to 1 millimeter of mercury post in eight hours. Troubleshooting took more than a month.
