Director of the Main Geophysical Observatory named after Warikov (GGO) Roshydromet, Vladimir Katstsov said that climatic changes accelerated in Russia. Over the past ten years, the temperature increase was 0.51 degrees Celsius with an average of 0.18 degrees around the world. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
As Kattsov told, recently Roshydromet published an annual report on the climate status in Russia in 2020. “According to this report, we have updated the estimates of climate change speed from the 1970s to the present, which are talking about the increasing changes,” he said.
At the same time, Kattsov stressed that in preserving a trend for warming, it is impossible to be confident, but there is a chance that it will hold on or increasing. He added that climate change will lead to an increase in the number of dangerous natural phenomena, the destruction of many years of permanent, to reduce the sea ice in the Arctic, the disappearance of ice on the Northern Sea Route. Now the climetologists are faced with the task of clarifying their forecasts as precisely and when expected changes occur.
Previously the leading researcher of the Main Geophysical Observatory named after Warikov Andrei Kiselev called the global warming by the main climatic threat to Russia. According to him, in the country it goes 2.5 times faster than in other states, and in the Arctic even faster.
