Baltic countries prepared for abandonment of electricity from Russia

For two days, April 8 and 11, the Baltic countries without warning and explanation of the reasons completely stopped purchases of electricity from Russia, Kommersant writes.

This situation was observed for the first time, it can be considered as preparations for the complete abandonment of Russian energy, which is scheduled for 2025. Apparently, the tests were combined with test tests between Belorussia and Lithuania.

Simultaneously with Lithuania, the Latvian system operator (AST) reset the flow from Russia, approves the source of the publication. In the Russian operator of the export of electricity “Inter RAO”, in turn, indicated that deliveries from the Kaliningrad region in Lithuania were preserved.

One of the consequences of tests was a sharp increase in the cost of electricity in the Baltic countries (in Lithuania – by 8.5 percent) and its cheapening in Russia (1-3 percent in the European part and in the Urals).

Baltic States is one of the main areas of electricity exports for Inter RAO. In 2019, Lithuania accounted for 33 percent of the supply. Thus, the rupture of the energy ring Brell (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) will affect the profitability of the company. In addition, the Kaliningrad region will be energetically isolated from the rest of Russia.

earlier from readiness to refuse to import electricity from Russia declared Finland. In the main network operator, Fingrid complained to a large wornity of three of the four power lines and unwillingness of the Russian side to recognize the problem.
