Russia made a ban on arms station in space

Russia is the beginning of negotiations on the ban placement of arms in space. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, his video image on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the flight of Yuri Gagarin to Cosmos published on the Office website.

Lavrov stressed that the possibility of using space for the benefit of humanity can only provide the guaranteed prevention of the arms race there. “We are in favor of the beginning of negotiations on the development of an international legally binding tool prohibiting the placement of any types of weapons, as well as the use of force or threat of force,” he said.

As the basis, it is proposed to take a Russian-Chinese draft agreement made at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva in 2014. As long as the document will be developed, the initiative nominated by Russia, according to which countries undertake not to place weapons in space, are first to be the first, Lavrov added weapons in space. Thirty states joined it.
