Belarus: three times increased rate of population reduction

In Belarus for the year, the rate of population reduction in the year has grown. This is reported by Tut.BY with reference to official data.

At the beginning of 2021, 9,349,645 people lived in the country. It is 60,614 people less than a year earlier. At the same time, at the beginning of 2020, compared with the beginning of the 2019th population decreased by 18,998 people.

The number of residents of Minsk in 2020 decreased by more than 10 thousand people.

The exact reasons for the reduction of the population of the republic are still unknown, since the mortality data of Belstat has not yet published. The publication reminds that the coronavirus pandemic began last year.

According to the latest data, since the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19 in Belarus, more than 333 thousand infected were identified, 2334 patients died. Rigid quarantine restrictions were imposed in the country. President Alexander Lukashenko explained this with economic reasons.
