Presidential elections in Belarus took place on August 9 last year. Babarico was considered the main rival of Lukashenko. He collected more than 400 thousand signatures, but in mid-June was arrested. The ex-banker is accused of withdrawing abroad of hundreds of millions of dollars. He does not recognize the guilt.

According to the CEC, Lukashenko in the election scored 80 percent of the votes. It caused mass protests that continue for eight months.
