Belarusian arrested for a month for a quote from prayer written on wall

In Belarus, the court for a month was arrested by a resident of Brest for writing on the wall at home a quotation from the prayer “Our Father” – “But to save us from the evil.” It is reported by the Human Rights Center “Spring”.

At the end of February, the court recognized Andrey Levonyuk guilty of an administrative offense, but then a criminal case was initiated under the article “Desecration of structures and property damage”.

According to the version of the charge, Levonyuk made an inscription in a red balloon on the facade of one of the houses, thereby expressing dissatisfaction with the results of presidential elections and the actions of law enforcement agencies to combat mass riots. On the Prosecutor’s Office website, the inscription was called cynical.

The defendant admitted that he wrote a quotation from prayer on the facade at home, but rejected accusations in the damage of property. According to him, there were already other inscriptions and drawings on the building, so it would still have to repaint. The court agreed with the requirements of the accusation and appointed an arrest month left.

In Belarus, from August last year, mass protests are continuing demanding the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko and holding new elections.
