Oxford University and Astrazeneca suspended the tests developed by them vaccine against coronavirus on children and adolescents against the background of the situation with the formation of thrombus in adults after applying the drug. This is reported by Sky News.
According to the representative of the university, during pediatric tests of the vaccine there were no problems, however, Oxford expects additional information from the management of drugs and medical products (MHRA) before the continuation of the vaccination of children and adolescents.
Earlier, the head of the Department of Health and Vaccination Strategies for the European Agency for Drugs (EMA) – the European Union Regulator responsible for the vaccine – Marco Cavalery confirmed the connection of the vaccine from the coronavirus of Astrazeneca and the subsequent formation of thromboms. At the same time, he did not specify what exactly causes such a reaction.
The cases of thromboms after using this vaccine were reported from different countries: how, on April 3, it became known that for this reason seven people died in the UK in the last days.
Earlier, EMA declared the lack of grounds for denial of the vaccine developed by the British-Swedish company Astrazeneca. As the regulator stated, “there is no evidence that would support the limitation of the use of Astrazeneca vaccine for any population.” The World Health Organization (WHO) also called on to continue vaccination with this drug.
A number of European countries have been suspended or banned by Astrazeneca vaccination due to the discovery of thrombosis in the vaccinated patients. Meanwhile, the creators of the vaccine insist on its safety. The company stated that a detailed study of the health of more than 17 million people after vaccination showed the absence of data on increased risk of pulmonary artery embolism, deep veins thrombosis or thrombocytopenia.
