Ford will start producing electric cars in Russia

Ford plans to launch in Russia the first mass production of electric vehicles by 2022, writes “Kommersant”.

Sollers Group (controls a joint venture with Ford Motor – Sollers Ford) will begin production of electric Ford Transit in parallel with the main diesel platform. Cars are produced in Elabuga (Tatarstan). According to the company’s estimates, the share of electric transport in the sales of LCV in Russia will be about 1.5 percent in 2022-2023 and will increase to four percent to 2025. As part of the Ford Motor strategy, gradually refuses internal combustion engines.

To stimulate consumers to transplancing on eco-friendly transport, the company offers electrocarbore owners to provide access to the center of cities without restrictions, allow the movement of highlighted strips and free travel by paid areas of roads. Also, the company consider it necessary to include electric transport in the preferential program “Affordable Rent” with the possibility of growing discounts on cars from 25 to 35 percent.

Earlier, Ford promised that by 2030 it would sell only electric vehicles in Europe. The automaker invests a billion dollars in the construction of the plant in Germany.
