Ministry of Energy reassured Russians about rise in prices for gasoline

Energy Deputy Minister Pavel Sorokin reassured Russians about the possible increase in gasoline prices, which the independent fuel alliance warned (NTS). This is reported by TASS.

As explained by the deputy head of the Ministry of Energy, the situation on oil exchange markets has stabilized from March 10, and the rise in gas stations corresponds to the limits of inflation. Sorokin noted that the measures taken by the Government to adjust the damper and to increase the minimum sales of fuel on the stock exchange is enough to preserve the stable situation.

At the same time, the Ministry continues to monitor prices “for additional actions if necessary,” Sorokin assured.

March 23 newspaper “Izvestia” with reference to an independent fuel union reported that prices for gasoline retarded by the end of 2021 can grow higher inflation, and at worst scenarios – by 14 percent. In the Union, they noted that the key driver increase in stock exchange and retail prices is the growth of the indexes of the export alternative (nets). They can grow due to the increase of four percent of excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel, which occurred from January 1, 2021, as well as an increase in the parameters of the formula for the calculation of damping premiums to return excise taxes for autobanzine and diesel fuel, explained to the NTS.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian government agrees to adjustments in the formula of the damper mechanism since May 1, which will help to restrain the rise in gasoline prices within inflation.
