Bulgaria mulling to declare Russian diplomats with unwanted persons

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov wanted to declare Russian diplomats with unwanted person because of the case of espionage in favor of Moscow, as part of the investigation of which six people were previously detained. This is reported by TASS on Saturday, March 20, with reference to the government press service.

“Once again, we have to announce Russian diplomats with unwanted persons,” said Borisov. At the same time, he called detentions in the case of espionage with an indicative action. The prime minister stressed that in the future the special services of the country will in a similar way to defend their safety and independence.

On March 19, the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office reported that six employees of the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria and military intelligence were detained on suspicion of espionage in favor of Russia.

In January, the prosecutor’s office of Bulgaria opened pre-trial investigations against two Russian diplomats in the case of espionage. It was established that from 2017 to the present one of them was engaged in spyware activities, collecting information about the electoral process in Bulgaria. It has been established that he has diplomatic immunity as the first secretary of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Sofia.

It is noted that the second Russian from October 2018 to the present collected information, which is a state and official secret in the field of energy. He then sent her to the headquarters of the Russian intelligence service in Moscow.
